A new technology solves an inspection challenge

A few days ago, an integrity inspection case study on critical defence equipment was organised and implemented. Atom Group, in collaboration with Novosound, has implemented a groundbreaking and innovative inspection solution that was previously considered impossible to implement in Greece’s physical assets and defence infrastructure, given the technologies available.
THE PROBLEM
A critical defence asset presents a great challenge in terms of its integrity and reliability design, due to its varied geometry and hard-to-reach points. It is often subject to corrosion, cracks, mechanical failures, manufacturing defects, or even failures during use and must be continuously monitored and evaluated. This is a necessary requirement that has not been met by existing inspection technologies.
THE SOLUTION
This obstacle was overcome by using Novosound’s flagship tool, Kelpie, for critical spot corrosion mapping, while achieving increased scanning speed and improved visualisation. As part of the overall Physical Asset Management program undertaken by Atom Group on behalf of its client, Newtron Technologies’ specialist team and Novosound’s industrial application specialist team collaborated on this project with very specific requirements, meeting its inspection needs using new non-destructive testing technologies.
